Proper Sugaring Aftercare
7/5/23, 9:00 PM
What should I be doing after i get sugared? Good question! The main things are no sweating or exfoliating for 24-48 hours, keep the area clean and in baggy clothing, and maintain a good exfoliation schedule between appointments.
Avoiding sex, working out, and wearing tight or unclean clothing for 24–48 hours after your appointment can help prevent irritation, reactions, or bacteria from entering freshly opened follicles.
A good way to tell when it’s safe to resume your normal routine is to check the treated area. If your pores are no longer visibly open and there is no pinpoint bleeding where the hairs were removed, you’re generally good to go.
As your hair becomes thinner and you’ve been sugaring consistently for a while, you may find that your skin needs less recovery time after appointments before returning to normal activities.
The best thing you can do between appointments is find the right exfoliant and moisturizer for your skin. Talk to your esthetician about what they recommend—and buy it from them if you can. Supporting estheticians over Amazon is always appreciated.
When it comes to exfoliating products, some of the best ingredients to look for are:
- Salicylic acid
- Mandelic acid
- Lactic acid (a great option if you are pregnant or nursing)
I also recommend using a moisturizer regularly to make sure your exfoliating products aren’t drying out your skin or causing more harm than good.
Dry skin can reduce the amount of sebum your body produces, which plays an important role in moving oil, dead skin cells, and debris out of the follicles. When the skin becomes too dry, dead skin can build up, clog pores, and lead to more ingrown hairs. Keeping the skin hydrated helps support healthy exfoliation and smoother results between appointments.
