How do I prepare for my appointment? Make sure hair is about an eighth of an inch (think about a grain of rice) so the sugar paste can adhere and pull the hair out completely. Avoid exfoliation for 24 to 48 hours before sugaring. Make sure the area you are sugaring is free from sunburn or topical retinoids. Please wait at least 6 months after ending Accutane and gain doctor approval before getting sugared. If you are on your period, that is totally fine! Just keep in mind you may be a bit more sensitive on and around your cycle, and remember your menstrual cup or tampon. Pregnancy does not affect the sugaring process, however, notify your service provider so only pregnancy-safe products are used. You may feel more sensitive when you are pregnant as well.
What is the aftercare? Avoid exfoliation, sun exposure to the area, swimming, bathtubs, and sweating for 24 to 48 hours after your sugaring appointment. Wear loose-fitting clothing. After 24 to 48 hours, exfoliation 2 to 3x a week is recommended to avoid ingrown hairs. Maintenance products can be bought at Simply Sugared with instructions on how often to use. For the first couple days, try to take cooler showers and keep skin clean and free from bacteria. If a histamine reaction occurs, you will be able to see little red bumps that may come to a head like a pimple. This is normal and is a response from your follicles. Taking an antihistamine with approval from your doctor can help, as well as avoiding touching or popping any bumps. The reaction should go away on its own and is most common after taking a long break from hair removal or after the very first sugaring appointment. These can also come up if bacteria made its way into the follicle. This can happen from sweating or using expired products. Everyone’s skin reacts differently and if there is any concern about the well-being of your skin, please contact your primary care doctor or a dermatologist.
How often should I come? Clients come anywhere between 4 to 6 weeks for maintenance. Keep in mind the more consistent you are, the less hair that could grow back and the less painful appointments can become. Shaving and tweezing between appointments can affect the growth cycles and make appointments very painful. Clients are told if they are at that approximate 4 week mark and have enough length, come in for your next appointment even if the hair is not as dense as it was before. This will help keep everyone sparse. Everyone is different, but consistency is key!
Late Policy. Clients are encouraged to text or call if they are going to be late so we can try and make appropriate accommodations. We will try our best to squeeze clients in, however, the service provider reserves the right to refuse service after 5 minutes past the appointment start time and charge the appropriate no show fee.
